March 05, 2016

Latest team entry “CG Academy” also secures the 3rd place corporate category podium spot at round 1

Competing against 29 teams who turned out to battle Round 1 of the 2016 Kartdrome Endurance Championship Driven by Mini, CG Racing stepped up to the grueling 12 hour challenge on March 4, 2016 with 3 teams (CG Pro, CG Racing 1 and CG Academy).

The Le Mans style start at noon, gave way to an intense seasonal opener, which also witnessed the introduction of a new kart swap pits stop system, in-line with international SWS Endurance rules.

Throughout the competition, CG Racing Pro constantly exchanged the lead for the top spot with its closest rival Batelco. With an hour remaining, both teams emerged from their final pits stops fully engaged and for the final half hour placed in a stunning sprint race. In the end CG Racing Pro (David Terrien, Alban Varutti and Rami Azzam) with Varutti in the driver’s seat, managed to take the lead and edge ahead to win by 9.9 seconds – one of the closest finishes in the twelve year history of the event. The team completed a total of 563 laps.

CG Racing Pro driver/captain Terrien said, “It is always good to win in the Kartdrome Endurance Championship. The level is very high as usual and the competition is tough. This year was the same with the extra challenge of a new pitstop format.”

“Our drivers and team dug deep to meet the challenges. It was very close and we were handed some luck which of course we grabbed. This and of course the hard work, speed and strategy of our team was enough for victory.”

“This win is a perfect way to launch our challenge for this championship in the best way possible. A big thank you to all the teams, the Kartdrome staff and of course our very own CG Racing team who make this one of the top endurance karting events in the world,” added Terrien.

On the equally exciting corporate category front, CG Racing (Maged Traboulsy, Omar Moukachar, Patrik Katrib, Chris Oughourlian and Salem Salem) also took top honors ahead of Team Emirates, while the latest entrants to the CG Racing banner “CG Racing Academy” also made their first prominent podium victory by coming in third place on the corporate category podium.

Round 2 of the 2016 Kartdrome Endurance Championship Driven by Mini will feature a 600-laps format and is slated to take place on April 30, 2016.
