CG RACING PRO WINS THE 2016 SWS WORLD FINALS
July 10, 2016
UAE based team fulfill long held dream and rise to the absolute top of global competition
July 10, 2016 – Dubai, UAE:
Entering the 2016 SWS World Finals (July 7-9) as part of an elite group representing the Dubai Kartdrome’s finest racers, CG Racing PRO recently made its mark on the world stage at the Racing Kart de Cormeilles (RKC), situated near Paris.
This follows up on the team’s 2014 runners-up “Vice World-Champions” victory at the same event, where they missed the 1st place podium position by a very small margin (3.146 seconds). Striving for the top honors again last year, the team fell short of meeting their objectives, and secured a 3rd place top podium standing last year in 2015.
As a show of sheer determination, this year’s victory serves as a dream come true for the speedy racers, as it reflects on CG Racing’s 4th qualification into the SWS Grand Finals and their third consecutive year receiving top podium honors. Up against some the best teams from around the globe, the Dubai-based outfit powered through the field throughout twelve grueling hours of racing to seize the Endurance Cup title.
CG Racing Pro drivers Rami Azzam, Piers Pakenham-Walsh, David Terrien and Alban Varutti needed to dig deep to recover from ninth position in qualifying to eventually take the win. A combination of expert pit stop strategy and blistering fast drives by Pakenham-Walsh fired them to the finish line 53.724 seconds ahead of their nearest rival, Team Swiss Pro.
“It was a tough weekend with its fair share of trials and tribulations, but we kept our focus and came out on top. A fantastic team effort; three years in the making and we’ve finally done it,” said Piers.
The drivers were accompanied by Dubai Kartdrome’s David Bright, a former UAE karting champion and a two times European endurance kart winner, who advised the UAE team as they challenged and triumphed against the world’s best leisure kart drivers.
“We are extremely proud of our Dubai Kartdrome drivers; they represented us well this weekend,” said Bright. “CG Racing Pro was crowned Endurance Cup champion. These results show how competitive and strong the level of kart racing is in the UAE.”
Bringing home the biggest prize in leisure karting, CG Racing Team Principal Pierre Choueiri in a statement issued to all team supporters stated that “CG Racing Pro has just won the SWS World Finals in France, grabbing the 1st place position with a good 55 seconds gap from the runners up. This day is certainly a joyous one for us and I ask you all to join me in congratulating all CG Racing teams and management for the great efforts which they have placed in to reach such high standards and amazing results. I truly believe that when you put forth such outstanding efforts and commitment, the outcome can only be the best of results”.
The 2016 SWS Grand Finals marked the culmination of the world-wide contest that ran throughout the 2015 season, with the top teams qualifying for the honor of racing at the annual event.
